Why are the xFyro xS2 Wireless Earbuds a real alternative for the AirPods
They are everywhere.
Take a quick look around any shopping mall or Starbucks and you will spot them. They are amongst us. Just look at their ears and you will see what can only be described as white earwax waterfalling out of the ear canal.
As you could probably tell, while I am not a fan of the AirPods (Ear-pods?) and the respective dental-floss charging case, I will say that I do like the wireless concept.
I like my Bluetooth headphones and I like not being tethered to my phone or computer but I don’t like anything dangling from my ears. Remember that fad of Bluetooth earpiece? yip. Glad that’s over too.
I want the functionality and flexibility of a true wireless earbud, but I want more of a discrete look and this is where the xS2 wireless earbuds from xFyro come in beautifully.
To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when I was offered to test these out. There are so many companies that have tried to mimic the AirPods and failed miserably. So I was already starting on the back-foot when these arrived for this review.
The TL/DR is this: Having used the xS2 as my only earbuds for a while now, I can honestly say that these are WOW. So wow in fact that I automatically put them in my ear and almost forget they are there. They are also so reliable that I have even conducted live radio interviews with these in my ear as my audio source.
Let me be clear, I am no audio-snob. Nor am I an audiophile. I am just a regular guy who enjoys listening to music, podcasts and watching videos. I know a good pair of earbuds vs. a bad pair.
So what do I like the xS2 so much?
7 Reasons the xS2 Wireless Earbuds are the REAL deal
- It’s not a copy
The xS2 are not a copy of the popular AirPods. They are designed from the ground up to provide a great wireless audio experience. They are not some pre-packaged Bluetooth earphones in new housing. The tech in these babies must be ridiculously complicated to be able to have the left earbud work in perfect harmony with the right earbud – something that most “copy cat” brands fail at miserably.
2. Waterproof and Dustproof.
The xS2 are officially rated at IP67 which makes them waterproof and dustproof. Simple as that. You can shower with them and dance in the rain if you wish. As with all IP67 rated product, swimming with them is not recommended.
Officially the rating means that they can be submerged in 1m (about 3.3 feet) of static water for up to 30 mins. Def not the in the salt-water of the sea.
The fact that they are dustproof means that you can stick them in your ear, go for a mountain bike ride or take them onto a building site without worrying about the fine dust getting in and ruining the earbuds.
3. Multiple Devices Connected.
What is pretty darn cool is that I can connect my laptop to the earbuds and at the same time have my phone connected. You could even connect one earbud to the computer and the other to a phone (if you want to.)
4. Quality Quality Quality
The sound quality is unbelievable. Just put these on, press the play button and the world is shut out. Sounds seem to come alive as the notes hit you from everywhere. There is a superb almost directional feel to the sound (if that’s even a thing) but it sounds like someone is behind you with the drums and on the right with the guitar and on the left are the vocals. It’s crazy! in a good way.
The quality of the earbuds themselves is impressive and look like they can take a beating and last for a long time. They don’t feel like cheap plastic that you find in most of those Dollar Store.
5. The Charging Case
This is super smart. The earbuds charge by placing them into the case where they click in magnetically. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge both earbuds and then they last around 3 hours.
This time is reduced if you listen continuously with the volume turned to max. Personally, I easily got 4 hours of battery life and even more, but I just plugged them into the case so they could charge overnight.
Wait there is more. The charging case is also a power bank! yes, so not only can the case charge your earbuds on the go, but it can also charge your phone. Love that!
When you are back at the office or at home, just plug in your MicroUSB cable and charge everything at once.
6. Range
Depending on how many obstacles I have between me and my phone, I could comfortably push the distance to 8m to 10m (around 33 feet). This means I could have a clear Skype or Slack conversation while leaving the phone in the office and making coffee in the kitchen. That’s GOLD!!
7. They don’t fall out
One of the biggest irritations with in-ear Bluetooth headphones is that they simply don’t stay in. Yes, it does depend on the shape of your ears, but go for a skateboard ride and the shaking dislodges them.
Not with these little guys.
I have biked with them and took a ride on my electric skateboard, and at no point did they feel like there were going to fall out.
