Vodacom has an ace up its network sleeve and it has smartly negotiated an exclusive deal with LG South Africa. From the 7th April 2015, the new LG G Flex 2 smartphone will only be available exclusively via Vodacom at a retail price of R10499 or on contract at R499.

Courtesy of LG, I attended the launch of the LG G Flex 2 in South Africa, and here is what we got up to:

The now-iconic curved smartphone from LG has been upgraded the original LG G Flex and now boasts a sleeker, more stylish curves and a powerful 64-bit Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM. It has a  5.5-inch display with Full HD Curved P-OLED (1080 x 1920 pixels / 403 ppi).

Insane Storage

The device comes in either a 16GB or a 32 GB storage option but has a microSD  can increase the storage capacity up to 2 Terabytes of data. Yes. Not a Typo – been confirmed that the LG G Flex 2 has cracked the usual 128GB microSD storage and can handle that much storage capacity.

The LG G Flex 2 weighs 152 Grams and measures at 149.1 x 75.3 x 7.1-9.4mm. It has a non-removable 3000 mAh battery with fast charge technology. The Fast Charge allows the battery to be charged up to 50 percent in under 40 minutes compared to other brands which take 55 minutes to get to 50% charge.

Other noteworthy features on the device include:

  • Self Healing which repairs minor scratches within 10 seconds at room temperatures (previous model was 3 minutes). This keeps the LG G Flex 2 looking good enough and resistant to day to day knocks and scratches.
  • Gesture Shot which makes it easy to capture a selfie with the front camera with a hand gesture recognisable from up to 1.5 meters away.
  • Gesture View makes it easy to check your last shot immediately after taking a photo.
  • Glance View which displays key information such as time, recent messages or missed calls with a downward swipe of the curved screen even while the display is off.
