How you can be part of bringing the Lord of the Rings city Minas Tirith to life

There are many of ambitious construction projects that happen around the world. Architects are constantly trying to push the envelope of materials and styles to achieve masterpieces for their clients. Of course these monumental projects come with a heft price too.

So when a bunch of architects who are Lord of the Rings uber fans got together, naturally they decided that it would be an amazing idea to build a replicate of the Lord of the Rings city Minas Tirith in the south of England. This would be a fully functioning city complete with hotels, apartments, business and horse drawn carriages.

Usually when the hang over hits, this would be filed into the  “boy what were we thinking” category but these guys are either still drinking heavily or deadly serious. The bunch took to the crowd sourcing platform Indiegogo to raise £1,850,000,000 GBP in 60 days.

The hefty sum is broken down as follows:

• £15 million for land
• £188 million for labour
• £1.4 billion for materials

Those who want to get in on the project, can contribute from £3 and they will follow you on Twitter to £100 000 where you will be Lordship / Ladyship of the City which “Grants you and your family exclusive access to all areas of the city, excluding private residences and businesses, and also permits use of horse-drawn carriages for transport. You will receive priority on property purchases, direct communication links to us (the developers) and a seat on the city’s Executive Committee. You will also be invited to many annual exclusive events.”

If, for whatever possible reason and in the unlikely event that the target isn’t reached, you are assured to get your money back – so practically a win/ win situation !

To date over £81,069 has been pledged by  2089 people in just 18 days.

Not sure what it more scary – the fact that this project exists or the fact that so many people put so much money into it.

Destroy the City

But wait. There is more.

For every action there is a reaction and so the Orcs have launched a  “Destroy the  Minas Tirith” campaign on Indiegogo.

Details are a bit thin but I am assuming they are hoping for something like this:

As loyal servants of the Dark Lord, we cannot allow this to happen. Join me in gnashing your teeth and stamping your feet. Your gold will buy many pointy and shiny things which we can stick the humans with.
