Facebook unveils a new feature: The Mute

We all have them: the outspoken friends who we love dearly but boy when they latch onto a topic….they keep going on and on and on and on…

A constant barrage of Facebook posts, and shares and links to stories which can get a bit much. Now don’t get me wrong – we still want to be friends buuuut we just need a little break from the constant noise.

Up until now, the only option we had on Facebook was to “hide all from <friend name>” which meant that technically, we would still be listed as “friends” but we wouldn’t see anything they posted. This was a good option until you had that conversation where you asked “How are things?” and they reply “My dog just died – didn’t you see it on Facebook?”…awkward

Good news – Facebook now has introduced the MUTE option!

This option is like the hide option, but it is only for 30 days and the Mute option also works with Facebook Groups.

How to Mute on Facebook for 30 days:

Step 1: Find the latest semi-annoying post.

Step 2: Click on the three dots on the top right of the post.

Step 3: Click on Mute for 30 days:

The Facebook Mute feature should bring back some serenity to your timeline…

Note: as of 10/19/2017, I don’t see this option on the Android Facebook app.

By the way, Twitter users suffer from the same “going on and on” syndrome which you can block a hashtag but still follow the person:
