Autel Evo Drones Are Finally Coming To North America!

THESE are the drone you have been waiting for – especially if you have never flown a drone before!

As you know, I have been out of the Drone game for a while, but the one company I have been keeping my eye on is Autel Robotics.

I am excited to see that the new Evo range of drones is finally taking flight in North America!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be at CES personally this year to see these beasts in action for myself, but I hope to get some air time with these in the future.

So why am I so excited about these? here is why:

What do we want from a done?

Ease of use – If these are too complicated for a regular consumer to fly, no matter how much cool tech is packed into the drone, it’s going to remain in its box. This is even more true for first-time pilots.

Camera Quality – Flying a drone for fun is perfectly fine, however, most of us fly a drone to capture those magnificent air shots. Regardless of whether it’s just capturing a cool sunset or the family gathering on the lake, we want our drone to give us that cinematic view from above.

Flying Time – We tend to have a lot of fun while flying up there and would like to fun to last longer than 10 minutes especially those of us who tend to send the drone on a long flight path.

These drones promise astounding video quality (up to 6K for the Lite+), a wide image transmission range of 7.4 miles, industry-leading battery life of up to 40 minutes (EVO Lite series), and advanced features such as vision sensors for smart obstacle avoidance.

How does the EVO range of drones hold up?

EVO NANO SERIES

Autel’s EVO Nano Series is a superlight and ultra-compact drone. Weighing in at only 249g, this is something that easily slips into your backpack.

The EVO Nano+ boasts a 1/1.28-inch (0.8-inch) CMOS sensor capable of 50 Megapixel (MP) photos with its 48 MP camera. Want to film in low light conditions? The Evo has a large aperture of f/1.9.

The three-axis mechanical gimbal damps out vibration, ensuring footage is smooth and stable no matter how rough the conditions.

What about first-time fliers?

The EVO Nano series is the first and only aircraft series of its size to offer an advanced obstacle avoidance system! This really does give that peace of mind for newbies to avoid crashing your new drone. With three-way, binocular vision sensors that enable the drone to perceive obstructions in front of it, behind it, and below it, the EVO Nano series can easily brake to avoid collisions and navigate obstacles.

EVO LITE AND LITE+

Autel’s EVO Lite and Lite+ take it up a notch!

50 MP camera equipped with a 1/1.28-inch (0.8-inch) CMOS sensor with an RYYB color filter array design, that absorbs 40% more light than traditional RGGB arrays.

It can track fast-moving subjects with precise autofocus that locks in within milliseconds using a phase detection autofocus and dual focus algorithm.

Moreover, the EVO Lite is the first drone in the world to introduce a four-axis gimbal design, enabling users to shoot vertical videos for easy editing and sharing on mobile devices.

The EVO Lite+, with its big 1-inch CMOS image sensor and Autel’s intelligent moonlight algorithm, can capture crisp, vibrant details at night with low noise. It has an adjustable aperture – from f/2.8 to f/11 so you photo nerds can really showcase your artistic styles.

And how easy is this one to fly for new drone pilots?

Just like its Nano brother (or sister?), the Evo Lite has thought about new fliers. It has a front field of view of 150 degrees, eliminating more blindspots than traditional systems while reducing the number of cameras needed, and has Autel’s new ultra-wide-angle obstacle avoidance cameras.

THE AUTEL SKY APP

It’s all about the app. A terrible non-user-friendly app just makes flying and capturing too frustrating.

There is a newly launched Sky App for the EVO Nano and EVO Lite series. There you can access features like SkyPortrait –  at a touch of a button, the drone rises into the air and snaps a photo of you and your friends, automatically adjusting the lens so no one gets left out of the frame!

With Dynamic Track 2.1 it can automatically follow any person, animal, or vehicle, so you can focus on what you are doing instead of worrying about where the drone is. I am so excited to test this as I ride my OneWheel!

You can also record audio through your smartphone so you can tell your story, share your excitement and it is all captured regardless of how far the drone is.

To transfer the videos and photos from the drone, place your smartphone next to the drone and transfer the footage at 160Mbps (20MB/s).

The Autel Sky App even provides a suite of video templates to make it even simpler to add a soundtrack and share your creation with the world.

My suggestion is to sell some tech you aren’t using right now, and use that money to get yourself one of these!
