Lucid Motors Brings Luxury High-End Electric Vehicles to Texas
Lucid Motors may not be a name you know, but it is certainly a name you will hear a lot about as this company is shaking up the electric vehicle industry.

I got to hang out with the Lucid team at the opening of their Dallas Studio where I got to drive the Air Grand Touring; Without a doubt an experience second to none.

The Design:
The car is a stunningly designed head-turner that makes people literally stop in their tracks and audibly ask: “What is that?!?”
And rightly so.
Designed from the ground up, everything about this vehicle is built with a purpose and all the advanced tech is so well hidden within the body, you’d be hard-pressed to find the sensors.
Even the exterior lights are not “the norm”. The headlights are designed entirely in-house with Intelligent Micro Lens Array that light up the road beautifully. Even the taillights at the rear of the vehicle have a very futuristic look that mixes light and depth; something you don’t see on other vehicles.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring is a mid-size vehicle with plenty of storage space in the front and in the back. When you step inside the vehicle there is just so much room and this is due to the way all the components have been miniaturized to provide maximum space for the occupants.
The optional solid glass roof is frankly, a must. This is a glass canopy roof that spans the entire cabin. I can only imagine how stunning this must be on those long cross-country car rides giving everyone in the car a gorgeous night sky view. But if you are concerned about heat or getting sunburnt, you need not worry as the glass canopy has a slew of protective interlayers to block out heat and sunlight.
When you are up-front in the Lucid Air, you really get to experience the ultra-luxurious features including real massaging seats and a dashboard that looks more like it belongs in a luxury aircraft than inside a car. There is a floating 34-inch panel that curves around the driver’s seat and displays information right in your sightline. Everything that can be controlled in the vehicle is done on a retractable touchscreen “tablet” that with a single swipe, folds away to reveal hidden storage.
The Tech:
There is so much tech that is all built around a digital ecosystem that is intuitive, easy to use, and seamlessly connects with your own devices.
With the Lucid app, you can plan your next trip, and send the navigation to the car and find charging locations along your route.
As you approach the car, it recognizes your key and unlocks the doors while extending the door handle. When you get into the vehicle, it uses facial recognition to adjust your settings to your personalized preference. FACIAL RECOGNITION!!!
When you don’t feel like pressing buttons, you can just use the built-in Alexa to adjust your seat heaters, lighting, sunshades, navigation, and more.
Regardless if you want to blast your music or listen to the latest audiobook, Lucid’s 21-speaker immersive audio system is just marvelous and of course, it is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other apps so your phone just becomes part of the vehicle.
And speaking of the tech, Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro is the most comprehensive advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) available in an EV. With 32 sensors, the latest camera, radar, and ultrasonic technology, plus a high-res LIDAR that uses laser beams to measure the distance from objects.
With over-the-air updates, it’s just a matter of time before we get autonomous driving as all the hardware is already backed into the body of the vehicle!
The Lucid’s Air Power
You have a choice of single, dual, or three-motors. It can get you from 0-60 in under 2 seconds, reach a quarter-mile in under 9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 200+ mph.
I can only imagine taking this baby around a track…
These are the speeds of high-end sports cars packed into a luxury mid-size sedan that is meant to be driven as your daily driver. This is key.
The Lucid Air is just as comfortable popping out to the shops as it is going on that long road trip where you may or may not be driving at a little bit over the speed limit.
The Ridiculous Range
With every electric vehicle, there is a term called “range anxiety”. This is where the driver is constantly worried about the vehicle running out of battery power and being stranded on the side of the road.
It’s not like you can just pop into the nearest gas station and top up.
“Range anxiety? What’s that?” jokes Zak Edson, Lucid’s Vice President of Sales and Service when I asked him about this.
And Zak is right as the Lucid Air Grand Touring has a range of over 500 miles on a single charge. Its built-in Wunderbox battery charger is the fastest EV charging system and is able to charge up to 300 miles in about 22 minutes!
So yes. A quick top-up is possible at the same time that it takes you to order your skinny cappuccino at your favorite coffee shop.
You can charge your Lucid Air at almost all public charging stations with Lucid’s partnership with Electrify America. This is the most extensive network of ultrafast public charging stations nationwide with over 700 stations and over 3,200 chargers across the US.
And if you want to charge your vehicle at home, that is doable too with the Lucid Connected Home Charging Station. If there is a power outage, you’ll able to power your home with your Air.
