Twitter starts a Star Wars

I guess you really can’t please everyone all of the time. Twitter found this out the hard (heart?) way as it replaced the Star which represented a Favourite Tweet with a Heart and started calling it Like.

The reasoning behind it seems logical enough. We are used to Liking something on social Media. Facebook made that mind-shift and this is same on Periscope, Instagram and Pinterest. As Twitter said in their announcement “You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favourite.”

The announcements goes on to say that “The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people”

On Jan 2014, I wrote this article about the various reasons people Favourite a tweet: To Like a tweet (as a “yes I read this and I dig what you said), to Bookmark a tweet so can come back to it later (and never do) and to Sub-Tweet a hated tweet.  Having the heart wont really change these reasons however some  Males seem to have a problem sending a heart/ love t a fellow Male…

There are also comment about how Twitter was already treading in the dodgy-creepy-realm has now made it even creepier with sending hearts:

Twitter starts a Star Wars

Of course the Twittersphere exploded as people woke up to find their beloved Twitter dared to change. This sparked the hashtag #TwitterHearts to spread with superb Tweets like:

Twitter starts a Star Wars

Twitter starts a Star Wars

What do you think of these Hearts ? Yes/ No or “The world is messed up enough and this is too trivial”
