What do you do when you just have too much stuff?

What do you do when you just have too much stuff?

What do you do when you just have too much stuff? Not just any stuff – but good stuff that is just sitting in boxes and not being used? What do you do when the stuff just keeps coming in and as you unbox the current load, even more stuff replaces it?

If you are Casey Neistat, you come up with a cool solution: sell it and donate the money to a charity.

In Casey’s latest video, he quickly pans around his office and storage showing the numerous items that are just sitting in boxes. Casey has set up an eBay store and that is where those items will land up waiting to be sold to a fan base of 7.8 million subscribers. The best part: The money will go to charity.

Win/ Win/ Kinda Win

Win: A definite win for the charity as 100% of the “profits” will be donated “after shipping costs”. Fantastic!

Win: The Casey fans buy a brand new product (minus those bumps and bruises when packages are “abused”) AND they get to help a charity. So another win.

Kinda Win: the companies who send Casey products obviously are looking for that 5-second of exposure which is also known as The Oprah Effect. Casey can’t show them all so at least now they will appear in the Casey Store – so a kinda Win.

Not the first time

This is not the first time Casey has used his fame status to help others. I wrote about Casey helping Marlan aka The UPS Guy and Casey and friends helped raise $1 million for water in Somalia to name but a few “high profile” cases. Casey doesn’t go into his private charity work but he does hint that this is a regular thing for him.

Why I personally like this

Instead of the items collecting dust, they are best being “out there” and someone benefiting from them. If Casey would sign those items, I bet they would be worth more too but this is eBay, so the bids come in fast and furious! With the auction time set at 7 days, already the several items in the store ramp up from $0.01 to hundreds of dollars;  it’s not even day 1 yet!

So the charity is going to get a serious check.

I like that Casey chooses the charity or NGO or NPO. I am assuming he is approached all the time so he has an idea of who is doing what out there.

Casey says in the video that every person who sends him anything is personally thanked via a letter or email and the correspondence is filed. Which, I think is very admirable and does show appreciation to both companies and to fans.

So yet another fun day on the Intewebs and something to discuss besides which isn’t politics or the fact that Twitter increased its character limit to 280…
