“Don’t worry T-shirts will be provided” said the invitation which was a hint that it wasn’t your regular tech event.
Indeed it wasn’t. Especially when the activities on hand were colour-fight, bungee and free-fall ! check this out:
I headed over to Orlando Towers in the heart of Soweto for the South African launch of the Ultimate Ears waterproof/dustproof/ take your music everywhere speaker range.
Ultimate Ears or UE as the cool kids call it, began by creating the in-ear headset that musicians like Madonna and many others wear while they preform. “Why do all speakers have to be black?” was the question that Remko van de Berg posed “we all like different things and are unique so too should our sound be”. The company launched a range of multi coloured Bluetooth speakers that can stand our hectic outdoor lifestyle. The entire range is dustproof and waterproof (IPX7 rated) which means you could dunk these in the pool or take these speakers with you as you wait for the perfect wave…
The UE range consists of:
UE Roll which looks like a Frisbee and can be tossed around like one. It has a 9 hour battery life and has a string attached to it so it be be hooked onto your backpack/ bike/ surfboard. Cost is R2500.
UE Boom 2 has a 15 hour battery life as well as a 3.5mm audio jack in case your phone is running low on battery, you can use the aux cable to connect. Cost : R3500
The UE Megaboom is the “big boy” of the range and have 20 hour battery life and costs R5000.
Its all about networking
The UE range has an accompanying app available on Android and iOS. The app is able to update the software on the device so as new features are released, the speaker keeps up to date.
The app also allows multiple people to share the same speaker as each person is able to “throw” their music selection to the UE speaker. If you have more than one speaker, you can add these together in a Block Party mode to add volume to the party.
The range is available at Incredible Connection rolling out to 26 of their stores.
ps. to answer the Twitter questions – no I did not bungee jump. I had to run to another meeting – thats my excuse and I am sticking to it !!!
pps. I was given a personalised UE Boom 2 speaker which formed part of the video.
