This art is where thrift store and pop culture combine

“Morning Break” was the title. I was staring at a splash of blue paint on a white canvas in an art museum.

I don’t get “art.” To me, this “piece” looked like the canvas you use to make sure paint doesn’t get onto your floor and someone clearly spilled some blue on it.

But that’s just me.

So when a friend called and told me that he finally found an artist I would like, I was unconvinced. I was told to look up an artist called Dave Pollot, which I thought would be just another artist that didn’t do it for me.

I was wrong. So very wrong.

Dave Pollot is no ordinary artist. He explains his work as:

My work is the confluence of time periods, zeitgeists, styles, and intentions.  By integrating distinct elements of pop culture from one generation into the abandoned artwork of another, cultural property lines are blurred and forgotten art is reintroduced into a more communal world where things like ‘modern nostalgia’ and ‘classical pop art’ make sense; one in which viewers are allowed an escape, if only for the few moments they spend looking at some bit of pop culture mischievously inserted into something that might have hung in their grandparents’ house.”

Dave Pollot takes thrift shop art paintings and then alters them with his own special pop culture scenes and references. And they are just too perfect!

According to his website, Dave’s “artwork has been displayed and found homes in galleries, businesses, and private collections in all 50 states and in over 40 countries around the globe.” Not difficult to see why!

Dave’s Instagram account is where you will not find a spot of paint or a side tilting lamp titled “Yesterday”. Instead, you will find thoughtful works of art which you would be proud to hang in your office and studio for instant smile and inspiration.

Check out some of the incredible art and head over to his Insta account for more!

There are so many stunning pieces – this is amazing stuff Mr. Pollot!
