When you head down to Cape Town and hit the Sea Point Pavilion, you will now see signs saying “free WiFi access”.
The Sea Point Pavilion free wifi project has been made possible by Up Cycles Bicycle Rental, The Friends of the Sea Point Pavilion and WiFi specialists, Connected Space. This is Connected Space’s third open Wi-Fi project,Company’s Gardens and Harrington Square are the other two locations. There is also an international organic products range, Dr Organic, which is cosponsoring the service as part of their product launch in SA.
Nice way to get noticed !
Having taken the Ruckus WiFi challenge (more about that here) where I was only allowed to use WiFi and not mobile 3G data, I can attest that this is a welcomed relief for those who data nomad who would like to quickly check email or connect to friends and family back home. This especially applies to tourist who can instantly hook up their various devices and Instagram/ Tweet/ Facebook their pics and experiences without using expensive international roaming data bundles.
We are seeing more tourist sites around the world using WiFi as a means to both attract visitors and also offer the tourist more information about the specific location they are in now.
The service will be live as from 11 November where users will be directed to a website where they will log in with their email address and receive 100mb of data per day.
