Samsung unveils African products at the Samsung Forum 2015
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” is the United States postal service motto. It should also be the motto for the South African Samsung Media guests that headed over to Turkey to check out Samsung Africa Forum in Antalya. After arriving in a snow storm in Istanbul, following shutdown of the roads and airport, countless flight delays at airport and we still made it.
This is the 6th convention that Samsung is hosting and is the ideal opportunity for the media and Samsung partners to check out the latest products coming to Africa.
The theme for the Africa Forum 2015 is “One Beat – Beyond the Limit” and builds on Samsung’s intent to create change in Africa by bringing consumers’ desires to life through innovative products.
S.Y.Hong, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics Africa, highlights premium, innovation, convenience, insights and citizenship as the key words related to product innovation in Africa.
“Last year we introduced our intent into Africa: One Beat. It embodies the spirit of overcoming challenges and moving towards a vision of togetherness across the continent,” said Hong. “Part of this is remaining focused on providing our African consumers with innovative products that are driven by consumer needs and passions.”
Breaking the shape-mould
One trend that strike me as I was going through the product show case is that Samsung is breaking the conventional mould. No more square and rectangle shapes.
Speakers are cone shaped. Air conditioners are Triangles, Sound Bar and TV are curved. It would seem that designers were mandated to look at which shape suit the function best and then left it up to engineers to cram all the technology inside it to make it work.
Unfortunately due to snow-induced-time constraints I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with the products, but here is a quick overview of what is coming.
I hope to get more hands-on time as the products get here. I am especially looking forward to checking out the new Cone-shaped-30degree speaker which looks and sounds incredible and maybe I should build a new kitchen just so that I can could have that new Chef series fridge…and washing machine….and and and…..
