Rumour: Samsung will offer Screen Damage &Water Damage Guarantee – no additional cost
Sometimes things just come together. This is one of those things that seems to fit like glove.
The story starts when my friend had dropped her iPhone and smashed the screen for the second time. This got me thinking about how many people encounter the same problem. I personally know 3 who dropped their various phones and smashed their screens.
When I researched the article I wrote on the 7th March 2013, I was horrified to find that 30% of people who have broken or damaged screen and just don’t replace them due to the cost factor.
If this is such a widespread problem, I posed the question: what if a mobile company would offer a guarantee that if this disaster happens, they would replace the screen for free ?
Looks like I wasn’t the only one asking this question.
I recently attended the Samsung Africa Forum 2013 in Cape Town and during my interviews and discussions I took the opportunity to pose this question to Samsung officials. I was surprised when I was told the media-trained line “we can not confirm or deny any information that is not in the public domain”. This is code for “we know something but our boss will fire us if we tell you”.
After some investigative process and more chats about the future of Samsung and the Built for Africa program someone let it slip – whilst not officially confirmed it looks like Samsung will be offering exactly what I proposed.
Samsung guarantee will now cover Screen Damage and even Water Damage with no additional cost to the customer and no access.
A source close to the project who does not want to be named confirms that “customers will be able to claim 2 items per year in any combination. Either 1x Screen Damage and 1x Water Damage or 2x Screen Damages or 2x Water Damage. This will only be applicable to the new S4 and anything newer.”
So it would appear that it is more than rumours but a real-thing. I assume it will be announced on Saturday when the Samsung Africa Forum talk to their dealers about Mobile product.
So Samsung has once again leapfrogged the competition and offers another real value add service.
This is a “wow” moment and something that will make other cell manufacturers take notice.
(not even going to say “told you so”….)
