Nokia’s Lumia 920 with Windows Phone 8 is available in SA now

imageIts the moment that Nokia fans have been waiting for: Nokia’s flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 920, is now available in South Africa.

Powered by Windows Phone 8, the new smartphone offers a more personal experience, with a start screen that can be easily rearranged to reflect individual priorities and new animated Live Tiles for real-time updates on the things that matter most. The ability to sync content between Windows Phone 8 smartphones, Windows 8-based PCs and tablets or Xbox means files, music, pictures and video can be accessed conveniently. Internet Explorer 10 offers faster, safer browsing and Microsoft Office apps make Windows Phone 8 the easiest platform if you want to get things done.  [Check out my Windows Phone 8 experience]

Other cool tech stuff built into the Nokia are:

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) allows the camera in the Nokia Lumia 920 to take in five times more light than competing smartphones, making it possible to capture clear, bright pictures and video indoors and at night. It also compensates for hand movement while the photo is being taken.

Nokia City Lens which – using augmented reality – overlays information about restaurants, shops, hotels and more on the surfaces of buildings, when viewed through the camera lens. Along with enhancements to Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps, the Nokia location suite of services represents the most comprehensive, integrated mapping experience of any smartphone.

Add to that Wireless charging and the largest battery Nokia has, you get a winning combination.

Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 (coming before the end of the year) will be available in red, white and black and both phones will support pentaband LTE.

Currently the Lumia 920 is available through Vodacom.

Mike Fairon, GM: Product Solutions at MTN SA  says that “MTN strives to provide mobile phone users with the best in mobile device technology on a smart network to enhance their voice and data experience. The Nokia Lumia 920 is testament to this as it boasts innovative features in mobile technology and the latest OS from Microsoft. As a partner for Windows phone 8 in Africa, MTN is excited to offer the Nokia Lumia 920 to the South African market.”

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be available at selected MTN stores in the coming week. The Nokia Lumia 920 is available on MTN 200 Anytime for R399 over 24 months and includes 150MB every month

Just a final note: once MTN opens up their LTE network to their subscribers, a software update will be sent and the phones will be able to hook up to the MTN LTE network. Simple and effective.
