It took 2 minutes to win a trip to Frankfurt at Mobile Monday
Whenever a group of like minded people get together is where magic happens. This is the especially true when you mix a bunch of Mobile-Tech-Creative-Agency-Developer types of people and pack them into a room to learn more about the mobile industry.
This was the setting at Mobile Monday that was held on the 25th August 2014 at the IBM office in Rivonia, Johannesburg.
The event began at 4 which was earlier than normal as the Mobile Marketing Association of South Africa, GfK and M-Days hosted a workshop discussing all things Mobile around the world and the sharing their leading trends of what is coming around the next mobile corner. The workshops were so packed that they had to be moved to the auditorium as mobile-interested Mobile Monday members continued to stream in.
Among many interesting apps, fact and figures, the audience learnt about the 7 segments that emerged from the research and how they spent their time on the phones:
- Lightweights spent 49 minutes
- Surfers spent 82 minutes (13 hours)
- Socialites spent 97 minutes (1.6 hours)
- Video Gamers spent 103 minutes (1.7 hours)
- Chatters spent 137 minutes (2.2 hours)
- Heavy Gamers spent 145 minutes (2.4 hours)
- Heavyweights spent 174 minutes (almost 3 hours)
Once the workshops were done, Mobile Monday members were able to pitch their idea to the crowd and judges. The rules were simple: No Presentations, No PowerPoint, 2-minutes on the clock. The aim was to find an idea that would warrant the inventor receiving a paid-for trip to Frankfurt to present at the M-Days events in 2015 in Frankfurt.
Competition was stiff as each entrepreneur presented their case for their innovative solution. The judges had a hard time deciding on the winner as each presenter had a unique offering.
Finally kaaslaam.com was the winner was selected with a mixture of audience participation and the judges votes.
