When it comes to Facebook, there seems to be several type of Facebook users. From those that live their entire lives exposing what they are doing to their friends and family and live by the motto “if its not on Facebook it didn’t happen” to those who log in occasionally to see what everyone is up to and post a few pics here and there. Then there are those who only like Facebook as it reminds them of upcoming Birthdays.  Facebook caters for all.

In order to keep up with the ever-changing internet user, Facebook keeps adapting and adding new facilities. One of these was the introduction of Groups which allow people to post stories, messages and pictures about a specific topics. This has been fantastic but recently Facebook has started to notify you about people who clicked on the like icon on a story in a specific group.  For example: “so-and-so like a top post in <group name>”. So along with real notifications that you want to see, there is a mix of these Top Post notifications usually from strangers who happen to be part of the group you are a member of.

These notifications are pushed to mobile too, so it would seem as if you have 20 unread notifications but in reality 18 of these are Group Notifications and only 2 were actually interesting.

The good news is that these notifications can be stopped.
