How to share your music with other Android users ?

Over this weekend, my daughter had her 13th birthday party. It was a come-and-chill type of party with fake-Champaign, pizza and good old fashion laughter and music shared with friends.

Standing on the side-lines as the old-people-do (when did that happen ?), I noticed that it has become the norm for 12  and 13 year olds to have a mobile phones with them which are used for two things: Instagram and Music.

Whilst they snapped away selfies and tagged each other, the only heated discussion was around the music – apparently agreeing on what is considered good music is not obvious as each one took turns plugging in their phones to my sound system’s auxiliary cable.

Surely there has to be a better way for a group to share music when in the same room ?

After a bit of research, I found this really great app – Slipstream Music for Android.

Essentially, the app allows for the Android users to share their music libraries over the same Wi-Fi connection so you build one playlist consisting of everyone’s music. All wirelessly and without having to plug in phones several phones.

After installing the application, the app finds all your music on your mobile phone and is ready to go. You will be prompted to give your phone a nickname so it can be identified on the network.

From the phone that is going to be connected to the sound system, tap on Menu, select Host.  It is now in listening mode waiting for connections from other Android devices wanting to share their music.

On the other Android phones, that have the app installed, select on Connect and the app will find the Host phone’s name on the same WiFi network.

After the host phone accepts your connection, now all your music are accessible to the Host phone who can simply play your tunes.

There are also features such as creating a Playlist, adding songs to the Queue and even Upvote which allows favourite tunes to be moved up the playlist queue if they receive votes from people in the room.

Just a nice simple and effective way to allow everyone to be part of the playlist without the need to synchronise Bluetooth links to speakers or give up your phone as it is plugged into the entertainment system.
