MTN Business App of the Year 2013

It is that time of the year where MTN is once again looking for the best Apps that South Africa has to offer. The 2013 MTN Business App of the Year Awards are now open for entry and anyone can enter any app. In fact developers are encouraged to step out of the usual comfort zone and as Nomalanga Nkosi, GM: Business at MTN SA explains that developers need to “push the envelop in improving the lives of people and enhancing business efficiency. MTN Business is a proud supporter of these prestigious awards that seeks to showcase the best local talent”

Apps can be submitted in the following categories:

  • Best Android app
  • Best IOS app
  • Best Blackberry app
  • Best Windows app
  • Most innovative app
  • Best independent (garage) developer

Apps will be judged by a panel of industry experts and know-it-alls (in a good way). Judges this year include:

  • Melissa Attree, a renowned social media expert
  • Kojo Baffoe, the editor of Destiny Man magazine
  • Toby Shapshak, the editor of Stuff magazine
  • Jonathan Hoehler, the manager of mobile technologies at Deloitte Digital
  • Max Stone, a divisional director at Pinnacle Africa

After an extensive selection process (Read as: play with the apps to make sure it does what it says it does and doesn’t break when the geeks get their hands on it), then the esteemed panel will produce a shortlist of finalists in each of the category. To select the Best Overall App audience-participation method will be used on the evening where the audience will be able to vote.

Closing date for entries is Wednesday, 10 July 2013 and an entry fee of R250 is charged per category.
