One of the cool features on Facebook that makes you stop and go “aawwweeeee” and smile is the On This Day Feature. This is where Facebook reminds you about a random photo or post you uploads on the same day in the past. This photo is private but you may choose to share it so other people can also go “aawwweee he/she were so cute back then” and the usual “oh where has time gone?” comment.

Now Facebook has introduced a new “aawwweee” feature with Moments Apps.

This is a standalone app that allows you to easily share photos with people who share the same moment with you. This way, instead of everyone handing their phone to the one person to snap the same group photo, each person in the group can snap away and at a push of a button the app will recognise the people in the shots and group them together.

This is done using facial recognition and location where the photos were taken. You can then privately sync those photos with the specific friends, and they can choose to sync their photos with you. When testing the app, it is kinda hit-and-miss as it groups photos based on time and location but it does allow you to customise the grouping so you can share the right set of photos with the right people.

If you swipe left it will discard the sharing and if you swipe right it will send it to the people it recognised in the photos. You can obviously add and edit those names too and give your photo set a title.

The Moments apps can also keep all of your photos organized and even search them to find the ones that you or specific friends are in.

It will even create a “movie compilation clip” with your photos complete with with music that is share able with the group. The video compilation will not post it to Facebook and if the receiving person or people don’t have the Moment App they will get a message with a preview of the photos in Messenger app.

Download the app form the Google Play store or iTunes store

  1. Is this another app that Facebook is going to force us to download, like The Messenger?

  2. it is a standalone app. Messenger app was different as it was built in as part of Facebook and then we had to download a separate app. This one is just a new feature so if you don’t want to use it, dont download it.
