I have had the pleasure of travelling to Johannesburg to see some clients. I took with my the usual: Wallet, ID, Car Hire Voucher, my Laptop and my HTC P4350 cell phone.
As with most business people – Email is the most important application as everything these days is organised/ confirmed/ changed/ managed/ arranges etc. via email.
It is now 5:00 pm and I am sitting in business lounge at the airport waiting for my flight – this is the FIRST time I have fired up the laptop and yet the entire day and yet I was in constant communication using my Email the entire day – How ? via my HTC phone !
For those of you who have not had the pleasure of using these devices, I would like to introduce you to what I term – “The Mobile Email”
The HTC is a Windows Mobile 6.0 OS and has the ability to stay connected to an Exchange server as well as being able to connect to POP mail. You can either set the phone to automatically fetch your mail or you can click Send and Receive and it will pull your mail for you.
Should you have an Exchange server, the HTC phone can also Synchronise your Contacts, Task, Notes, Files and Email over the air via a 3G, GPRS or Internet connection such as WiFI (which is built into the phone).
The HTC also has Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile and a PDF reader – so any attachments can not only be viewed buy can be commented on.
In order to really be mobile – I have signed up for a FAX-to-Email service which provides me with an 0860 number and any faxes sent to that are automatically converted to an Email PDF attachment and emailed to me.
Now this is the power of being mobile !
I have literally being able to spend the entire day, completely in touch with my office and the only time I used my laptop is now as I write this.
