Cell C has announced another data cut which will run until the 30th June. In this new data cut Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig has said that Cell C “is determined to continue offering the best value products available to data users in the South African mobile market”.
So is Cell C new data rate the best promotion in the market ?
Not so much.
In fact, it seems like the price wars between the networks is coming to a draw.
When I compare the data prices across Cell C, MTN and Vodacom the 500MB, 1GB and 2GB prices are exactly the same. The variances only occurs in the high-end data consumption contracts. 8ta has slightly different data packages.
Here is a Data comparison between Cell C, MTN, Vodacom and 8ta:
The Cell C promotion rates:
500MB for R39 per month, 1GB for R69 per month, 2GB for R99 per month. No modem or router expect for the 2GB package.
MTN promotion rates:
500MB for R39 per month, 1GB for R69 per month, 2GB for R99 per month.
In fact on MTN is including a router or a modem with each of their bundled Internet packages and not just a SIM card.
If you look at the top end, for R899 on MTN you get an “Uncapped” account compared to Cell C that gives you 20GB of data.
Vodacom promotion rates:
With the current Vodacom price plans you also get 500MB of data for R39 per month, 1GB for R69 and 2GB for R99. You will need to “Add a data modem to the price below as an optional extra”
8ta data rates:
8ta is the only “odd one out” – 750MB of data for R88 per month, 1.5GB for R148 per month, 3GB for R248 per month. All including a modem. There is currently a promotion running for 20GB of data for R299 per month.
