When you look at most people’s mobile phone, its hard not to spot the famous WhatsApp logo. This app is one of the most downloaded and must-have apps across all the mobile platforms and has helped keep million of people in touch across the globe and across mobile phone operating systems.

400 million milestone
WhatsApp has announced that they have reached the 400 million active user milestone. These are people who are using WhatsApp on a monthly basis. They also note that in the past four month, WhatsApp has gained over 100 million people.
This is impressive by any standards especially when the entire company is made up of just 50 staff and they have spent no money on advertising their app. All is done via word of mouth which is the best kind of ad there is.
Whilst other messaging platform such as WeChat and KIK are knocking on their doorstep with their growing numbers there seems to be a debate about what these numbers mean. There is a difference between active users who use the platform to communicate on a monthly basis and those number of people that have just registered and are not using the system or very sparsely using the system. I am registered on a couple of these networks but am only active on two – I wonder if they others count me as a user ?
WhatsApp is continuing to focus on keeping their users ad-free and communicating across all platforms. And thats WhatsApp !
