What can you get for R2 in South Africa ? not much. R2 is what people use to pay the Car Guards who look after your car when you run into the shops.
Well, MTN has a different view.
In June 2010, MTN pre-paid and top up customers have been able to recharge their cell phone with a R2 virtual airtime voucher however, today MTN has announced that the physical form R2 voucher will be available too.
MTN SA chief marketing officer, Serame Taukobong, says market analysis has shown that a large segment of MTN Pay-As-You-Go customers prefer to recharge more frequently, in smaller denominations.
“In fact, demand for recharge vouchers of a lower denomination prompted MTN to launch a R5 voucher in October 2007. We have continued to listen to our customers and realised that they require an even lower denomination. So, in June 2010, we launched the R2 recharge voucher in virtual format. The availability of the R2 physical voucher today is to complement and drive what has already proven to be a product with high demand in the market.”
When the petrol price has gone through the roof, E-toll planning to take more money from us maybe a R2 airtime voucher is simply an indicator of just how the cost of living has changed. Make every cent count !
These are the signs of our time: when even someone spending R2 on airtime, would like to feel something in return. To feel that even their R2 is worth something in the hand.
