Philips takes the edge off

A shaver is a shaver is a shaver right ? So when Philips sent over the new Philips Shaver series 7000 wet and dry electric shaver, I was keen just to see what could possibly be enhanced on a device used to strip facial hair.

As I resisted the hipster beard tends, I needed a willing test-subject who would volunteer his beard for some facial hair experimentation. A quick chat with my fellow TheTechieGuy writer Clare, and she immediately offered her  man as our test guinea pig…

Here is what Philips was responsible for from Clare’s perspective as she documented the experience:

Initially, it was a bit of a battle. Asking a man to part with his beard is a very demanding challenge – but once I’d completed the “do-it-for-the team” speech, he rolled his eyes and reluctantly agreed.

The compromise I had to make, was that we’d start with the beard trimmer, which was in fact, well received and stirred some enthusiasm for the experiment.

Philips takes the edge off

SmartClick beard styler

The SmartClick beard styler attachment gives a choice of five length settings to create anything from perfect stubble to a short, neatly trimmed beard. It was important to note that the rounded tips and combs were designed to prevent skin irritation!

Anyone who has removed half their beard because the razor was the wrong way round will be glad to hear that the angle of the click on styler head felt comfortable when held in either hand and at any angle.

AquaTec Wet & Dry

Wet or Dry…is something every man has to ask himself before having a shave. With the Philips Shaver series 7000, you can choose how you prefer to shave. The AquaTec Wet & Dry seal, lets you decide if you prefer to shave dry or whether you prefer to shave wet with gel or foam under the shower.

3 level battery indicator

The 3 level battery indicator also piqued my interest. Its intuitive display shows relevant information: 3-level battery indicator – cleaning indicator – battery low indicator – replacement head indicator – travel lock indicator.

Now you don’t have to explain that vibrating noise in your hand luggage to airport security – it’s happened! Long story! [ed: one that we need to explore #JustSaying]

The energy-efficient, powerful lithium-Ion battery system gives two convenient options: charge it for an hour for up to 50 minutes of shaving time, or a quick charge for one full shave.

By the way,  all shaver series 7000 models are designed to operate only in cordless mode so this means no strange accidents in wet environments. You’re quite safe with the Philips Shaver series 7000.

Comfort rings

Specially designed to be comfortable on sensitive skin, the Philips Shaver series 7000 features comfort rings with a unique microbead coating which enables the shaver to glide effortlessly across your face. The coating contains thousands of powder-like beads. This creates a soft and low-resistance surface and allows the shaver to glide easily across your face. It reduces irritation and leaves your skin so, so, so smooth. Perfect, no?

According to Philips, the specially-designed blade system protects the skin while cutting extremely close on long, short and flat-lying hairs. The slots are engineered to position each hair at its ideal cutting point, so as to carefully cut without damaging the skin. Its 5-direction DynamicFlex heads effortlessly move in five directions to follow every curve of your face and neck for a more comfortable shave.

SmartClick Cleansing Brush

While I LOVED the idea of a cleansing brush, it took my assistant a little more time to wrap his head around it. The SmartClick Cleansing Brush was developed for the gentle treatment of sensitive skin and can be used with the cleanser of your choice. The 32 000 active bristles thoroughly and gently clean even the hardest-to-reach areas of your face for smooth and healthy looking skin. Once our guinea pig started using the cleansing brush – it became quite difficult to wrestle him away from it.

All in all, after a bit of a struggle, the Philips proved to be well worth a shave. It was fun to explore and play with initially and eventually became part of the daily routine without any hassles. Let’s hope you gents put this on your next wish list.

Happy shaving!
