Learn the Art of Storytelling from Pixar – Free course

Every time I see a desk lamp I am reminded of Pixar; the company which produced amazing movies such as Cars, The Incredibles, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. to name but a few.

To say that Pixar is great at telling stories is like saying that the internet is great for email – very understated!

Pixar has joined together with Khan Academy to offer various courses for wannabe filmmakers and these courses are completely free. Head over to Pixar in a Box and you will find everything from effects, to rigging, to sets, to animation. Simply click on the lesson you want to learn and you will be shown an introduction to the lesson, a lesson plan, and even practice activities. The system monitors your progress so you can pick up where you left off.

Tell me a story

One of the courses is in the “Art of storytelling”.

In our world where brands and content creators are trying to communicate their messages with an audience that is online, has a short attention span, and a very low tolerance for rubbish, it is imperative to understand the components that make up a good story.

A good story can pull us in, make us feel, make us take an action but only if it’s done right:

We have been telling stories since we learned to speak, however, telling a story and translating that into content for a client can be two very different things.  So if you want to learn the Art of Story Telling, head over to Pixar in a Box and being your journey.
