I was waiting for BlackBerry to launch in the USA as that is when I expected a big push to get even more apps into the BlackBerry World.
There are now over 100 000 apps available for BlackBerry 10 users to download. This means that since the launch of BlackBerry 10 on the 30th Jan, 30 000 more apps have been added to the store in around 7 weeks. That is impressive.
Clearly developers have adopted the BlackBerry platform and are embracing the ease of either building native apps for BB10 or simply porting their already developed apps from Android to BlackBerry.
Developers are able to cash in twice. Once on Android and now on BlackBerry. In fact, many developers see Blackberry as generating more revenue for them than any other platform. According to Market analysis firm Vision Mobile Blackberry is on top in terms of average revenue, with developers earning nearly $3,900 per app per month. The study found that on average, Blackberry developers generate 4% more revenue per app per month than do iOS developers, who generate about 35% more than Android developers.
When it comes to games, news & utility apps, BlackBerry 10 customers already have access to a wide range including 8tracks, Angry Birds Star Wars, ATP World Tour Live, BBC Top Gear News, Bloomberg Anywhere, CBS Sports, Delta Air Lines, F1 2013 Timing App CP, Facebook, Foursquare, Jetpack Joyride, Keek, LinkedIn, Navita Translator, Need for Speed, NHL GameCenter, N.O.V.A. 3, The New York Times, PressReader, Slacker, Songza, Twitter, UFC, USA TODAY, Waze, WhatsApp, and Zara.
Amazon Kindle and The Wall Street Journal were also added and in the coming weeks apps from CNN, The Daily Show Headlines, eBay, eMusic, Maxim, MLB at Bat, MTV News, Pageonce, PGA, Rdio will be available for download or purchase.
The ones I am personally still waiting for are Skype, Soundhound and Viber – these are set to become available within weeks.
Martyn Mallick, Vice President, Global Alliances at BlackBerry. “Top brands and application providers are joining us every day and are seeing the benefits of being early supporters of the new platform. We constantly hear from developers that the BlackBerry 10 tools are easy to build with and that we provide opportunities for app differentiation that they do not see on other platforms.”
There is nothing more powerful than a friend sharing a link to a cool new app. BlackBerry recognised this and has made the ability to share apps simple. So apps spread to our community of family and friends very easily via all Social Networks and BBM.
In addition to apps and games, BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10 offers access to a great selection of Music. With partnerships across all major movie studios, all major music labels and television networks content is available at your finger tips. Music is available if you live in South Africa, USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. Video content is available too but currently only if you live in the USA, Canada or the UK
